Becton Dickinson UK is recalling specified ChloraPrep 2% 1 mL and ChloraPrep Frepp 2% 1.5 mL applicators after a potential breach of sterility in the packaging process, according to an MHRA Class 2 notice.
The regulator says the defect could allow applicators to be contaminated with pathogens and potentially increase infection rates. The number of affected units within each batch is unknown, so the recall is precautionary.
The notice covers ChloraPrep 1 mL lots with expiry dates up to and including February 2028 and ChloraPrep Frepp 1.5 mL lots with expiry dates up to and including January 2028. Healthcare professionals should use the full official annex to verify affected batches.
Providers should stop supplying the affected stock, quarantine it and return it through the approved supplier process. The product is used by healthcare professionals, and the MHRA notice says no further action is required from patients solely because of this recall.
